Movistar is a major mobile phone operator owned by Telefónica Móviles.

Telefonica Moviles has been in Colombia since October 2004, after acquiring the operations of BellSouth in 10 Latin American countries. Telefonica Moviles has become the only mobile phone carrier that has branches in major Latin American markets, which includes Colombia, and in 14 countries, including Spain and Morocco. In Colombia, Telefonica Moviles is the second operator to close the first half of 2005 in number of subscribers, with 4.7 million users.

Telefonica Moviles manages activities of Group Telefonica's mobile telephony throughout the world. It is one of the first mobile operators in the world and the leading sector in the markets for Spanish-speaking and Portuguese. It has operations on three continents and 80 million customers (as of February 2005).

Telefonica Moviles Colombia remained in the first quarter business efforts and managed to attract 785,000 customers, bringing to a total of 6.8 million customers, compared to 3.9 million in 2005.
