Mr Hernan Martinez energy and mines minister of Colombia told reporters that Colombia will likely export 80 million tonnes of coal in 2010, up from 72 million tonnes in 2009.

Mr Martinez said the country is likely to produce about 83 million tonnes this year, up from about 76 million tonnes in 2009.

Colombia's largest coal exporter is Cerrejon LLC which is likely to produce 31 million tons this year. London-listed Xstrata PLC, Anglo American PLC and BHP Billiton PLC each own 33.3% of Cerrejon. Alabama-based Drummond Co will export about 30 million tonnes and smaller exporters including Swiss-based Glencore International AG and Brazil's Vale SA also handle coal operations in Colombia.
