BOGOTA, Jan. 29, 2010 - The state-run Colombian oil company Ecopetrol announced Friday the discovery of an oil well in the southwestern Huila province, which would produce some 1,000 barrels of oil per day.

Ecopetrol said the discovery of the well, named Tempranillo Norte-1, was the result of joint work with the National Agency of Hydrocarbons.

The drilling of the well began in October 2009 and reached the depth of 10,235 feet, or over 3 km, in December, the company said.

Ecopetrol said the oil well was the fourth major one discovered in southwestern Colombia during the past two years, and would contribute to the increase of oil reserves in the region.
